The key concepts of howt.io
howt.io was created with the aim in mind to easily create documents like how-to's, onboardings, tutorials, and documentations without worrying about how the document will look like in the end on every iteration or every new document.
We faced this challenge on our day-to-day agency work some time ago, where you need to onboard customers to a software they want to use, be it a CMS backend like WordPress or a custom software that requires a simple but individual go-to document that explains everything users need to know.
To achieve this, we were using a macOS app that was the inspiration for howt.io, called clarify, which unfortunately was discontinued, but was based on the same concepts we are applying on howt.io to easily and quickly create descriptive documents.
That is:
- An easy-to-use editor where syou can quickly put together documents without moving parts around for styling. You still have a lot of freedom and can arrange documents to achieve expected outcomes.
- Templates that you can create and export every document with. You create it once and it serves you for every other document you want to create.
- You can export or share your documents in different output formats. Your documents will have the same templates style applied across all file formats you export to - beside some file formats limitations.
With these cornerstones at hand, you have a lot of flexibility and a big time saver for your document creation, be it one time or for repeated tasks.
You can learn about each of these "cornerstones" in the following articles.
