Documents at howt.io

You can create a new document from almost every point of the app.

How to create a document

The content of documents is composed of steps. Each step can have multiple step-items which are content elements, like text paragraphs or images, that make up your document.

Using steps and step-items to organize the content of your document gives you flexibility while maintaining order - you can move them around, duplicate, copy and remove them freely. Click here to learn how to work with steps and step items .

As templates are in charge of the final look of the document, you don't have to worry about styling when editing / creating your document. You can preview how your document would look like with a certain template by using the "Template" tab in the editor header.

When you open a document, its content will be stored in your browser's local storage, which means, even after you close the page/browser and come back to the app, your changes will not be lost and you can continue working on it.

It's not safe to rely on this though, because some events might clear up your local storage. This could be a browser update or when you clear your browsers cache.

For persistency, it's best to save your documents on the howt.io cloud. For that, you need to have a registered account. On a free account, you can currently save up to 3 documents at the same time. If you need to persist more documents, please check the available plans .

You can close a document that is currently opened or open another document where you will be asked to save changes that you didn't save already.

We are currently working on an auto-save feature, if you are interested in that feature, check the roadmap here and stay tuned!

Users that create many documents don't want things to get messy, for that, you can create groups that you can assign/move documents to. That helps to keep the overview and to have contexts nicely put together.

Power users might want to save even more time by using keyboard shortcuts/mappings. Head over to this article to see all available shortcuts for the app .
